Today Newspaper
Launched in 1986 as the UK's first colour newspaper, Today was able to use its crop of talented photographers to the full. The Today Archive gives you access to images covering the many pivotal events in the late 80s and early 90s; images that have become iconic.
The famine in Ethiopia
Images of the 1984/85 famine were both heartbreaking and inspirational. Without them, we would never have seen their plight; we would never have reacted like we did. Live Aid, in 1985, brought in more than $100m of donations alone.
The first Gulf War
Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990 led to 34 nations forming a coalition force. The famous Operation Desert Storm is part of its legacy, as are the powerful colour images.

Interest in the "People's princess" was always high, yet the births of William and Harry seemed to take things to a new level.
Lockerbie
270 people died in this devastating act of terrorism. The memories and images are as strong today as they were in 1988, particularly with the 2009 compassionate release of the Lockerbie Bomber.

To quote the staff of Today in 1986:
“Now you’ll be able to see if Red Rum is red, Frank Bruno is in the pink, Geoff Boycott is blue, and why all the competition is green with envy.”
As seen by every other newspaper, the eighties were grey. But the true colours of that momentous decade still shine through Today.
