Today Newspaper

Today was Britain’s first national newspaper published in colour. For nearly four years it was alone in the field. Employing some of the best photographers of their time, and shooting on transparency film for superb quality, this unique newspaper generated some of the iconic images of its age. The result is a unique archive of contemporary news and features pictures, all in colour, covering the late 1980s and early 1990s.

NI Syndication offers you access to this superb collection. It is a profound and hard-hitting retrospective of a decade that spanned such events as Ethiopia’s famine, the first Gulf War, the early days of the royal princes and tragedies such as Lockerbie and the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. It also embodies the Zeitgeist of the age, the celebrities (and their haircuts), the fashions, the sports and the lifestyles.

Using technology that was dramatically ahead of its time, Today Newspaper sustained an advantage over its competitors during a vital period of history that encompassed many earth-shattering events.

To quote the staff of Today in 1986:
“Now you’ll be able to see if Red Rum is red, Frank Bruno is in the pink, Geoff Boycott is blue, and why all the competition is green with envy.”

As seen by every other newspaper, the eighties were grey. But the true colours of that momentous decade still shine
through Today.
